An ACT! tip from The Act Lady:

Backing up your files is smart, preventive medicine. Why lose days or weeks of data when a simple backup can save you from re-keying lost data?

Be sure to back up your ACT! files at least once a week.

Refer to the backup procedure below that applies to the version of ACT! software you use.

⇒ Backup for ACT! 2005/2006:
From the pull-down menu, choose File>Backup>Database… or File>Backup>Personal Files…

Database Backup
1. For a database backup, a Back Up Database dialog box appears. For “Back up files to:” select a drive and folder where the backed-up database will be placed. Use the “Browse…” button to locate the desired folder.
2. If desired, check “Password protect file.”
3. Click OK.
4. If a backed-up database exists in the selected folder, a dialog box asks if you want to replace the file. We recommend that you do not overwrite the existing database. Instead, select today’s date and add it to the end of the file name. This allows you to have multiple database backups, in case you need to access a database from several weeks ago.
5. Choose Yes or No.
6. The database backup process begins. When it is finished, a Backup dialog box informs you that the backup was completed successfully.

Personal Files Backup
1. For a personal files backup, a Back Up Personal Files dialog box appears. For “Back up files to:” select a drive and folders to which the backed-up database will be placed. Use the “Browse…” button to locate the desired folder.
2. Check the types of personal files to backup: Documents, Internet Links, and Dictionaries.
3. Follow steps 3 through 6 of the “Database Backup” procedure above.

Back Up for ACT! 6.0 and before:
1. From the pull-down menu, choose File>Backup…
2. A Backup dialog box appears. On the “General” tab, choose the directory and folder to which the backed-up files will be installed. On the “Options” tab check which ACT! files you want to back up.
3. Add the date after the name of the database you are backing up, in order to keep more than one backup (e.g., name of database-6-1-06). As desired, you can delete older, backed-up databases.
4. As desired, choose a time, in days, to be reminded to backup your files. Check the box.
5. Click Start.
6. When backup is finished, a dialog appears, stating that “Backup was completed successfully.”
